About Course

This course explores African and non-African prose, focusing on critical reading, analysis, and interpretation of literary texts.

Students will begin with Buchi Emecheta’s Second Class Citizen, analyzing its plot, characters, and characterization. They will examine the novel’s setting and major themes, such as gender roles, immigration, and societal expectations.

Next, they will study Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, exploring its plot, themes, and characters. Key discussions will include love, revenge, class struggle, and the Gothic elements that define the novel.

Through this course, students will develop skills in literary analysis, critical thinking, and textual interpretation, enhancing their appreciation of both African and European literature.
