About Course
This course offers students a comprehensive approach to mastering grammar, vocabulary, writing, comprehension, and speech work. The term begins with a revision of tenses and an engaging narrative writing task to recount holiday experiences. Students move on to complex sentence structures, particularly conditional clauses, while expanding their vocabulary with terms related to publishing. They also explore speech and article writing, including their features and uses. The focus shifts to stress patterns in speech, the contrast between active and passive voice, and the role of prefixes in vocabulary building. Other key grammar areas such as prepositional phrases, concord rules, and adjectival clauses are introduced alongside structured reading passages on topics like bullying and agriculture in Africa, enhancing both comprehension and summary skills.
Throughout the course, learners deepen their knowledge of essay writing through various forms including story, expository, and speech writing, while also learning how to write for different purposes. Vocabulary enrichment is integrated with topics ranging from films and television to manufacturing, politics, and transportation. Grammar instruction is reinforced with lessons on adverbs, idioms, affixation (suffixes), and different types of clauses. Speech work continues with a focus on vowel and nasal sounds and syllable stress. The course concludes with critical comprehension practice, enabling students to derive implied meanings and interpret content accurately, preparing them for confident use of English in both written and spoken contexts.
