ABOUT THIS COURSE: This course covers fundamental concepts related to business structures, population dynamics, labor markets, and key sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Students will start by exploring different Business Organizations, including sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations. They will study Joint Stock Companies and Cooperative Societies, learning about their formation, benefits, and contributions to the economy. The role of Public Enterprises and their significance in providing essential services will also be examined.
The course will differentiate between a Firm and an Industry, explaining their roles in economic production. Students will then shift focus to Population Studies, covering Population Census, Population Density, and their impacts on national planning and development.
The Labour Market module will introduce the concept of employment, unemployment, and factors affecting labor supply and demand. Lastly, students will analyze The Nature of the Nigerian Economy, identifying key industries and economic activities, with a special focus on Agriculture, its importance, and its contribution to national development.
