About Course

ABOUT THIS COURSE: This course introduces students to the fundamental principles of citizenship and democracy.

Students will begin by exploring the concept of citizenship, including the various ways it can be acquired and the circumstances under which it may be withdrawn. They will also examine the duties and obligations of citizens, emphasizing the role of nationalism in fostering unity and national development.

The course will then focus on democracy, starting with representative democracy and progressing to the different types of democratic systems. The major pillars of democracy, such as the rule of law, separation of powers, and fundamental human rights, will be discussed in detail.

Students will also study the structure of government, analyzing the three arms of government—the executive, legislative, and judiciary—as well as the different levels of government in Nigeria, including federal, state, and local government functions.
