About Course
This term in Mathematics, you’ll be building on your problem-solving skills by exploring both abstract and practical topics.
You’ll begin with Logarithms—specifically learning how to solve logarithmic expressions without using tables, relying instead on the laws of logarithms. This strengthens your understanding of powers and how to simplify complex expressions.
Next is Surds, where you’ll work with roots (like square roots and cube roots) that can’t be simplified into whole numbers. You’ll learn how to simplify, add, subtract, multiply, and divide surds correctly.
You’ll also explore Matrices and Determinants, powerful tools used in solving systems of equations and organizing data in rows and columns. This topic lays a foundation for topics in higher mathematics and computer science.
In Commercial Arithmetic, you’ll deal with real-life math applications like calculating profit, loss, discount, commission, and interest. This is important for understanding business and finance.
Then you’ll move into Geometry, focusing on how to find the surface area and volume of spheres and hemispheres, which will help you understand how much space these shapes occupy.
Finally, you’ll study Latitude and Longitude, where you’ll learn to calculate distances between places on the Earth using geographical coordinates—an important skill in navigation and geography.
